Ben Sandler, Deputy Director NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, has a plan. Tom Kretzler and his graduate students have presented him with an extraordinary theory. Extraordinary theories require extraordinary proof. Ben plans to publish a peer reviewed paper to win over the scientific community. Only then can it be bumped up to the military and political authorities that must take action. Earth is in danger.
Shurri, Commander of the Great Armada of the Six Tribes, has a plan. She smells a path through the enemy's deployment pattern. She must muster a large fighting force from each of the Tribes and push through to destroy the enemy's forward production bases. But first she must keep the Tribes focused on fighting the enemy and not bickering with each other.
Azaraht 1, commander of a fleet of 27 battle astroids (batoids), does not have a plan. Created solely to co-command a batoid with his computer he realizes that something is terribly wrong with the war effort. But batoid pilots, even commanders, are given as little information as possible to perform their mission. Fleet Battle Orders are insistent that every possible measure be taken to limit the amount of information that might fall to the enemy. Azaraht has only his computer and its dictionary to try to understand the war. He is studying the limited information available to him, but he does not have a plan. He is making it up as he goes along.

A nuclear engineer by profession, it’s usually hard for me to suspend belief when it come to the “science” in “sci-fi”. That said, one of the things I loved about this book was the plausible science underpinning the combat and the forensics that the humans employ to figure out just what the heck is going on.Additionally, the character development was well done. The main criticism I have is the seeming lack of copy-editing that others have pointed out, even after the August revision. Since I got my copy in January, perhaps my copy was not updated.
Nonetheless, this novel was fresh, solid sci-fi. I give it nine tentacles up.

A Faint Fuzzy Danger eBook Glenn B Harvey Reviews
A book that is most of all hopeful. Today everything seems portrayed in extremes - good guys and bad, winners and losers. This story does a wonderful job of introducing many characters who, although uniquely flawed - discouraged, hesitant, competitive, proud, rash - are all committed to finding a path toward the common good even when their perspectives on what that is, is decidedly different. While describing my own dream that we discover life beyond earth, a friend once said, I hope aliens never have to encounter us. If they do, I hope we live up to our role in a Faint Fuzzy Danger.
interesting read
This was an excellent book! First contact done in a unique way. The actions and thoughts of the aliens and humans were very well done, and pretty much spot on reasonable as things could very well happen. From the descriptions of all three sides, to battles, to all character's decisions, kept the interest high to very last page.
This is a thoughtful science fiction book and I enjoyed it very much. The only thing that spoiled five stars was the grammar and spelling. Nearly every page had something incorrect. A good editor could clean this up. An editor could also tighten it up a little. There are probably a hundred pages that just get in the way. But for three bucks,, why am I complaining? It's an excellent first contact book, and could probably be the way it actually happens.
Fantastic Science fiction novel. Well written with excellent characters. Plot is original and makes you keep turning the pages. Recommend for high school and above readers.
Thought-provoking and fun, this book takes you into a fascinating future where humans discover that in fact we are not alone in the universe, nor even in our own galaxy. I'm not generally a sci-fi reader so it is hard for me to judge how realistic some of the faster than light and advanced weapon technologies might be, but I found the insights into the impact on world politics compelling. I also enjoyed the character development of the humans and aliens. I'm looking forward to the sequel!
Detecting an extraterrestrial civilization by detecting its warfare isn’t how I’d like to find out we are not alone, but it makes for an interesting story line. Interesting characters and curious cultures keep the reader entertained. The battle scenes are well done. I particularly like the machines and their story. Mr. Harvey’s love of science and especially astronomy really comes through. We can only hope that warring and superior technological civilizations landing on our doorstep ends so well. Here’s to hoping that there is actually considerably less warfare going on out there. But that would be boring for us readers, Mr. Harvey saves us from that.
